Stonehenge project - week 1
.jpg)

The above images shows the pictures before. In photoshop I replaced the sky of the Stonehenge image with the image of the stormy sky above by using the quick selection tool and deleting the original sky to reveal the background image of the stormy sky. The left shows the finished product.
Animal Hybrids - wk1

To create my first animal hybrid I started with the background image of a seal in photoshop. I used the selection tool to select the head of the pig, delete the background and place the head on the seal, I made sure to feather the edges of the selection so that the head blended into the background. After this I selected a portion of the orangutang's head, leaving out a bit of the cheeks, his chin and his hair, and I repeated the process. I then adjusted the RGB curves of the orangutang to blend in more with the pigs ears. Thus creating the final image below. I found this task very difficult at first as I couldn't seem to get it right. However once I got the hang of it my next animal hybrid was much easier.

For my next animal hybrid I started out in photoshop with an image of a dachshund. I then selected the head of the jaguar using the select tool, flipped it horizontally and made sure to feather the edges so as to help blend into the dog. I adjusted the size and position of the jaguar using transform tool to fit. I then adjusted the RGB curves of the jaguar to bring out more red in the image so as to match the colour of the dog more.
1st House render - Maya - wk1

In the software Maya I created this render of a house by manipulating cubes into different shapes. I selected the top face of two cubes and transformed it to make the roof of the house more triangular. I used a total of 5 cubes to create this house. The base of the house was made by making two of the cubes larger and stretching the one in the middle to be a bit longer.
Green screen removal - wk2

In this class, using photoshop, we replaced the background of a lady standing in front of a green screen with clouds. Instead of using the quick selection tool like done before, I used colour range to select the green and masked it, thus revealing the image of the sky I had placed behind the green screen image. After doing this there was still a green tint around her body and hair. To get rid of this I when to adjustments and made a hue/saturation layer, selected the green around her and pulled the measure down until it was all gone.
Apocalyptic building - wk2

In this task I made an apocalyptic building out of the images above. In photoshop I replaced the sky of image 2 with image 3 and placed the image of rust (image 1) over the top while and selecting the colour burn option to reveal the building. I then adjusted the settings until I was happy with it. I also painted on some vines, leaves, tree branches etc. on the building to make it looked more abandoned, I used the burn tool on some areas to make it darker and I finished off by adding a lens flare. The final image can be seen below as well the process images.

Spaceship - Maya - wk3

Spaceship without smooth mesh, Maya

Spaceship with smooth mesh, Maya
Using the program Maya I sculpted this spaceship. I did so by altering the shape of different cubes by selecting the face of a cube and using the extrude mode to shape it the way I thought best. We then used an HDRI 4k image for the background. I added a chrome layer to the spaceship giving it the silver, reflective look it has. On the left is the spaceship before smooth mesh was applied and on the right is it with the smooth mesh.
Kettle - maya - wk4
In this class we were shown how to make a kettle, using different tools from when we made the spaceship, such as extruding along a spine (used to make the handle of the kettle) and inserting an edge loop (to create the curved top part of the kettle). After this task I felt like I had a much better knowledge of Maya and feel more comfortable using it. The below images show my finished kettle.

Finished product with a silver metallic layer.

Wk 5 - Maya Modelling techniques
In this lesson we learnt many techniques of modelling in Maya. The screenshots show the outcome of these techniques.

The above image shows the Bend technique. I did this by taking a plane, scaling it up to make it bigger. Then change from modelling to animation and from the deform menu selecting bend. I then adjusted the setting to what I liked.

The above image shows the loft technique done in Maya. I did this by making 3 curves, which can be seen by the blue lines in the image. I then selected all three of theses curves and when in the surfaces drop down menu and selected loft. I reset the settings and made sure that, under output geometry, polygons were selected and that the type was quads. I adjusted the settings to what I thought looked good

The above images show the Wedge technique. I did this by selecting a cube, scaling it up, selecting the multi option, then clicking on wedge face. I then adjusted the divisions and wedge angle to suit.

These three images show the Boolean technique. I did this by selecting a cube and a sphere, going into the mesh menu and selecting boolean. There are 3 categories under this. The top left image shows union, the top right shows difference and the bottom left shows intersection.
After learning all of these techniques we made a bond like spy gadget. I used multiple techniques to do this and then applied material over the different objects. The two screenshots taken of my final gadget are shown below.

Wk 6 - Gadget cup
In this lesson we created, together in class, a robot cup/camera cup. We practiced using the different materials and what effects thy had on the object. I also added an HDRI to the background in order to get a realistic lighting and scene.

Fake News Assignment
For this assignment I decided to do something that could be realistic. My fake news is titled "politicians seen having picnic together, starting up many rumours". It shows Trump and Putin shaking hands, having a picnic, with a canyon behind them. I used many techniques that I learnt in Photoshop to complete this assignment. The below pictures show the original images and then my final project.

I first started by taking this image as a background.
I then took this image and selected both politicians and moved them onto the background layer. Adjusting the size and position etc.

I then took this image of the picnic, selected the food and basket and placed it on the table in the first image. I adjusted the size and position.
I also took a few of these balloons and removed the sky, adjusted them and placed them in the image.

This is the final image that I made using what I learned in Photoshop.
Spy Gadget Assignment
For this assignment I decided to make a ring that was also a taser. I did this by adjusting the size of a pipe, bevelling the edges so that they were more curved and looked more realistic. Then adding two cylinders and making the top of them into a point. I added to points to these cylinders and then went into the FX menu and selected lightning. I adjusted the positions of the lighting, the colour and brightness of it.

This is how I started, by adjusting the shape and size of it to make it look like a ring.
I added a Arnold surface shader, made it look metallic, I played around with different colours but I preferred black as it made the electricity look better. Below and to the right are a few screenshots taken showing the rings at different angles.

In this image I added a motion blur to the lightning to make it look a bit more realistic. However, I prefer how it looks sharp
this video shows an animation of the lightning on the ring.

The two images above show my spy gadget with HDRI image behind it. This helps the lighting be more realistic. However, I prefer the gadget without the image behind as the rings must be quite small to look realistic and also they look better when they are in a dark environment as the electricity looks better.
Wk 9 - practice with textures and techniques

In this lesson I played around with how to apply textures to objects and what different effects did to these objects, I also used hyper shade for the first time.
I applied different 2D textures to a sphere, such as noise and checker, and adjusted settings to see the different effects it would have.

After getting a sense of what everything did, I textured two images onto a cylinder to make a can look. The screenshot of these can be seen above, as well as the hyper shade screenshot to the left. We placed the image on the cylinder but had some trouble as the image was duplicating etc., this can be solved in photoshop but adjusting the size of the image, however I made it work in Maya. The top left image is of a pink floyd logo and the top right is a guarana can, a popular soft drink in Brazil
Wk 10 - texture
In this lesson we textured a brick wall. I did this by creating a wall shape and then adding an image of a brick wall over it. However just doing that made it look quite fake, we had to add texture. We added bump nodes and adjusted the lighting settings etc, to give it a more textured, realistic look. The image below, to the left shows it without a bump node and to the right with.

The below image to the left shows a close up of the brick wall, showing all the details to grooves and bumps etc. The image below to the right shows the wall with all these effects however, the surface is not right as it seems very shiny and plastic-like.

The image below is my final render of the brick wall I made.

Assignment 2 - New York Rooftop
Below are some reference images I used for my New York rooftops, especially the water tanks.

I liked the idea of mixing a modern, typical, glass like building with an old, abandoned one. So this is what I did. I used many different textures to add detail to the buildings. To sculpt I used simple techniques by just altering object but to get detail I just made many different ones instead of altering one large object.

The above images show the my first building as part of my New York rooftop model. Below shows the final with added texture.

Assignment 2 - Timeleap
This assignment requires that we model a period in history. I chose to use the Aldeias in Portugal as my inspiration as it is a place that never left the old, simple ways of life. It is a beautiful, peaceful place that doesn't show any signs of wanting to catch up with the modern world so represents the history of simple living as well as shows that we can still do so now. I also found this to be a nice comparison to the busy streets of New York and the modern rooftops I modelled for that.
The images below are some examples I used for reference.

To create the hill I tilted the plane at an angle and then used the sculpting tool to build up giving it more of an uneven natural land feel. I decided to use a tiled rooftop because they are present in some of the houses in Aldeias so it fits with the location, but also because it is more simple than doing the grassy like roof of the image above, as I do not have much training inn the program yet...but hopefully soon I will be able to accomplish it :) I also decided to add a chimney. Next I will add a wall behind and maybe some other houses in the background.
